Demand modelling tools

Demand Planning

By demand planning, we mean tools that relate workforce demand back to the service delivery plans that drive it. Ideally service planning and workforce planning should be a single process because workforce constraints can set limits on the services that can be delivered or drive the adoption of new service models. Similarly the need for whole systems models is becoming increasingly apparent as services are increasingly planned around patient needs and care pathways.

This section will provide examples of commonly used approaches to modelling demand.

The areas covered will include:

  • Activity based models
  • Systems models
  • Simulation modelling
  • Planning frameworks
